Erase the background from any photo
The AI erases the background automatically, and the built-in Touch up brush lets you erase or restore edges by hand. Drop a photo to start.
How to erase a photo background
- Drop a photo. Drag it onto the page, pick from your files, or paste with Ctrl+V. JPG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC are supported.
- The AI erases the background. In one or two seconds the background disappears. Compare with the original using the slider.
- Touch up and download. Open Touch up to erase any leftover background or restore parts the AI removed. Then download the finished image.
Auto erase plus manual control
Fully automatic background erasers work well for most photos, but some images have tricky edges that no AI gets right every time. That is where the Touch up brush comes in: after the AI does the heavy lifting, you can zoom in and erase leftover pixels by hand, or restore parts of the subject that were accidentally removed.
The brush works at the original resolution of your photo, so even small details like earrings, watch hands, or individual strands of hair can be fixed precisely. Pinch to zoom on a phone, or scroll to zoom on a computer. Undo removes your last stroke if you go too far.
Unlike apps that only let you erase, this tool also lets you restore. If the AI removed a hand, a shoe, or a pet's tail, switch the brush to Restore and paint it back in from the original photo. This back-and-forth between erase and restore gives you full control without having to start over.
Questions about background eraser
What is the difference between erasing and removing a background?
They mean the same thing. "Erase" and "remove" both refer to making the background transparent or replacing it with a solid color.
Can I erase only part of the background?
Yes. After the AI removes the full background, open Touch up and use Restore to bring back parts you want to keep. This lets you erase selectively.
Does the eraser work on videos?
No. This tool works on still images (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC). For video background removal, you need a video editor.
Is the background eraser free?
Yes. There is no watermark, no account, and no limit on how many photos you erase. The AI runs on your own device, so each image costs nothing.
